Mzuzu City Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) youth last Sunday donated construction materials worth K100 000 to a widow in Nkhata Bay.
Neff Chisale comes from Kambulumbulu Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kabunduli in the district.
The donation, made to commemorate this year’s Global Youth Day (GYD), included 22 iron sheets, wires and nails.

Mzuzu Central District SDA youth secretary Wezzie Tchuwa said the grouping decided to donate the materials to fulfil the theme for this year’s GYD, which is ‘Be the Sermon’.
“We were asked to adopt a prisoner, patient or an orphan. This is why we went to Kambulumbulu Village to give this donation after being tipped of this needy widow whose grass-thatched house leaks and she cannot afford to maintain it,” said Tchuwa.
Chisale commended the youth for the donation, saying it had come at the right time when she was suffering due to rains.
“I cannot believe this. I have been sleeping in a leaking house for many years and it is the youth who have rescued me,’’ she said.
Apart from donating the construction materials, the youth group actually did the roofing of the house, and also donated to Chisale soap, salt, plates, clothes and kitchen utensils. n
